Adegas Pazos de Lusco
The Pazos de Lusco winery, a part of the Rías Baixas D.O, is located on the Pazo Piñeiro estate, in the municipality of Salvaterra do Miño, in the province of Pontevedra. It is a mountainous winegrowing region focused on the growing of the albariño variety, and extends until the right bank of the Miño river. The soil is poor in organic matter but rich in minerals. When we began the project in 1995, we believed in the potential of the vineyards in the area to make exceptional albariño wines. Experience has taught us that by being demanding we can obtain, vintage after vintage, wines with a splendid fruity load that are harmonious, balanced and remarkable for their mineral notes, that are not only maintained but also enhanced in the bottle. The result: the notoriety achieved and numerous awards received for Pazos de Lusco in Spain, as well as in other countries such as the United States, Germany, Holland, Great Britain...
At Pazos de Lusco we use natural methods at all times: from the moment of selection and harvest of the grape to the very end of a careful production process. Our intent is to obtain wines that express the best of each terroir and vineyard. To do so, we use a harvest plan that combines the most advanced technology with traditional methods. To ensure grapes have the highest quality possible, we reduce the load of each vine by trimming infertile buds and collecting bunches before their full ripeness; we replace herbicides with ploughing and keep chemical treatments to a bare minimum. Our most emblematic manor, Pazo Piñeiro, has spectacular vineyards that are planted in extremely poor soils. A situation that forces the vines to stretch out their roots in order to reach the parent rock. Thanks to this, they receive more nutrients, which give the wine born of these vineyards a special equilibrium and unmistakable mineral character.
