Pazo Baión

A distinguished property of 30 hectares, with one of the most spectacular vineyards in the world, it has 22 hectares of the albariño variety and the vines have an average age of 35 years. On the property there are three main buildings: El Pazo, La Vaquería and La Viejawinery, as well as a pigeon coop and a granary. In the first documents about the estate, dating back to the 15th century, the Soutomaior lords were the owners of the main house and Torre Fontán, the name of what is now known as Pazo Baión. Several renowned families passed through the most emblematic Pazo of Arousa, such as the Figueroa family, Sarmiento family and the counts of Priegue, each leaving their mark on the property. The renovation of the original Pazo, at the beginning of the 20th century, was done by a Galician expatriate who returned from America. In the '70s, the first technical albariño vineyard of Galicia was set up in Pazo Baión, which later became a source of knowledge for what, today, is one of the most prestigious Denomination of Origins. After passing through the hands of several owners, on the 16th of July 2008, it was acquired by the winery "Condes de Albarei", a flagship model of the Rías Baixas D.O.
