Torre de San Sadorniño

In the fishing village of Santo Tomé del Mar you can find the crumbling remains of this tower. It was built as a lighthouse and watchtower due to the incursions of foreign ships in its attempt to assault Santiago de Compostela by climbing the Ulla River, navigable to Padrón. The Sotomayor (Señores de Santo Tomé and Portonovo) were owners, and it was Marshal D. Suero Gómez de Sotomayor who repaired it after cruel attacks arising in the uprising of the Irmandiños.

It was kept in good condition until the eighteenth century, when it was abandoned and began to fall apart. Next to the Tower there was a chapel, of which there are no remains, dedicated to the Virgin with the images of Santo Tomé and San Sadorniño, images that are preserved in the chapel of Valvanera.

Location: Santo Tomé do Mar, Cambados Town Hall.
