Located in a small estate in Val de O Salnés, we've spent three generations dedicated to the care of vineyards and production of albariño wine, maintaining a past that turns them into legitimate heirs of one of the most ancient traditions. The respect that the family has kept for its past and the legacy of its fellow members, is what makes this winery of O Salnés a charming, singular spot that is full of memories. The philosophy of the three generations in this family business is love for albariño and their surroundings. Pioneers in Rías Baixas in the production of this excellent wine that is the legendary albariño, Zárate represents the perfect fusion of tradition and new oenology concepts. Dr. Ernesto Zárate, founder of this winery and initiator of the Fiesta del Albariño of Cambados in 1953, claims that he owes success to a love of caring zealously for the noble albariño vines and the generosity of the bees who play a patient role in waiting for ripeness. Our vineyards, located in Padrenda, Val de O Salnés, are the base of the production of Zárate albariño. The century-old vines, trained using traditional vine arbours, allow us to collect grapes of the highest quality. The soils and special climate of the area lead to a balanced development of the vines and a limited yield of high quality of grapes that are perfectly ripe. Over time, Zárate has adjusted to the new trends that dominate in the making of the finest wines. Implementing new winemaking technologies has led to an increased level of quality in our wines. The albariño of Zárate is white wine of a single variety that belongs to the Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin. Considered by critics to be one of the best white wines in the world, the albariño is now a legend. In Zárate, we have spent decades dedicated to making this wine, with the care that tradition has shown us and that our ancestors left behind. We make our wine from albariño grapes that come from our vineyards, with a quality control that extends from the harvesting of the fruit to the subsequent winemaking. An oenology project that bears its most excellent fruit in our Zárate albariño.
