Ruta do Viño Rías Baixas is finalising the last arrangements for the celebration of VI Xornadas de Portas Abertas (6th Open Days). Between the 19th and 21st of May, a myriad of activities will be offered for all those who wish to experience wine tourism differently. The extensive programme offered by Ruta do Viño Rías Baixas, almost fully booked, will be complemented with parallel activities organised by a dozen partner establishments.

The programme begins tomorrow at partner restaurant O Muíño da Chanca with the celebration of Venres de Tapeo (Friday Tapas). From 19:00 onwards, for a price of 5 euros, there will be a wine tasting of a Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin label accompanied by three pinchos (small dishes), made especially for the occasion.

Then, one of the year’s newest activities will take place: Ruta de Ilusión (Route of Illusion). At 20:00, at Granbazán winery, in the sub-region of Val do Salnés, Pedro Volta will present a magic show. The 50 spots for attending this event have all been booked.

Free visits to 26 partner wineries

Additionally, a total of 26 wineries will offer free guided tours this weekend, to take place on Saturday 20th of May at 11:30, 13:00 and 17:00; and on Sunday 21st of May at 12:00. In Val do Salnés, the wineries Bouza de Carril, Casa da Barca, Condes de Albarei, Eidos, Granbazán, Lagar de Besada, Mar de Frades, Martín Códax, Paco & Lola, Palacio de Fefiñanes, Pazo Baión, Terra de Asorei, Tomada de Castro, Pazo Rubianes, Gil Armada and Valdamor can be visited. In Condado do Tea, As Laxas, La Val, Marqués de Vizhoja, Pazo Lusco, Señorío de Rubiós and Viña Nora will open their doors; while in O Rosal, Lagar de Fornelos, Santiago Ruiz, Terras Gauda and Valmiñor will do the same.

These wineries are also a part of the different routes of the 9 ‘Wine Buses’ of Ruta do Viño Rías Baixas. With departures from Pontevedra (Plaza de Galicia – next to the Hiperxel), Vigo (bus stop of Centro Comercial A Laxe) and Santiago (Rúa da Rosa – next to the pharmacy of Plaza Doctor Puente Castro), the buses will offer a full day where participants can visit three wineries, entirely free of charge. The more than 225 spots for the ‘Wine Buses’ are now all fully booked, and even have a waiting list.

Magic and humour

On Saturday afternoon there will be a second magic show given by Pedro Volta. On this occasion, the show will take place in Terras Gauda winery, in the region of O Rosal, at 20:00. This is the only activity that still has a few spots available, which can be reserved by calling one of our phone numbers: 986 091 088 or 687 523 230, or by sending an email to info@rutadelvinoriasbaixas.com. The weekend will conclude with Ruta con Humor (Route with Humour), with a monologue by Quico Cadaval. The event will take place on Sunday 21st of May at 19:00 at Martín Códax winery, in the region of Val do Salnés. Once again, the over 70 spots for this activity are already fully booked and have a waiting list.

Parallel programming

In parallel to the programme offered by Ruta do Viño Rías Baixas, a dozen of our partner establishments will also organise special activities. One of the largest will be the celebration of Día Movimiento Vino DO (Day of Movement for Wine D.O), organised by the Regulatory Council of Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin. The square of Concello de Cambados will host a free wine tasting at 13:00, combined with a performance by music group La Casa de los Ingleses.

At 13:30 there will be a pause to read the declaration Movimiento Vino DP (Movement for Wine D.O) and to all toast to the wines of denomination of origin. Said toast will also take place simultaneously in 23 other locations throughout Spain. Plus, during the weekend there will be special visits offered to Lagar de Besada, in Museo do Viño de Cambados, Pazo Quinteiro da Cruz and Pazo de Rubianes. There will also be cooking workshops at Adega Eidos, Quinta de San Amaro and Terras Gauda, along with a tasting at Mar de Frades and a day of hiking in Terra de Asorei.
